Not mandatory, but wise
Liability insurance is not mandatory in the Netherlands. However, it is highly recommended. After all, damages due to fault can add up quickly. If you cause damage to another person of thousands or perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars without insurance, you have a serious problem. If you have liability insurance, the policy usually provides coverage up to 1 million euros.
Premiums for third-party insurance are limited. Most liability insurance providers also cover your entire family right away, including out-of-home student children.
